It may come as no surprise that a significant majority of personal injury cases in the United States stem from car accidents. In 2012, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported approximately 5.6 million car crashes. Disturbingly, in 2021, speeding-related crashes resulted in the deaths of 12,330 individuals. Notably, there was an alarming 8% surge in speeding-related fatalities from 2020 to 2021, with speeding accounting for 29% of all traffic fatalities in the latter year. These figures, released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, shed light on the gravity of the situation.

While speeding-related crashes encompass drivers of all age groups, data reveals that roughly 24% of drivers between the ages of 18 and 44 involved in fatal crashes were speeding. Additionally, young men are disproportionately represented in fatal crashes involving speeding. Astonishingly, in 2021, 35% of male drivers aged 15-20 and 31% of male drivers aged 21-24, both tragically involved in fatal crashes, were found to be speeding.

Recognizing the Hazards of Speeding

Regardless of one’s proficiency behind the wheel, it is vital to comprehend the inherent dangers associated with speeding. The act of speeding:

Diminishes one’s ability to navigate safely around other vehicles, hazardous objects, or unexpected curves.

Lengthens the distance required for a vehicle to come to a complete stop.

Amplifies the risk of a collision, as other vehicles and pedestrians may struggle to accurately gauge the distance of an approaching speeding vehicle.

The ramifications of being involved in a car crash are undeniably devastating, often entailing severe physical injuries or, tragically, even loss of life. Furthermore, these unfortunate incidents invariably result in substantial property damage, leading to exorbitant costs and potentially life-altering consequences.

Regrettably, despite exercising utmost care and defensive driving practices, external factors beyond one’s control can precipitate car collisions. Inclement weather conditions, such as heavy rain or snow, can impede visibility and impair driving skills, magnifying the potential for catastrophic outcomes resulting from minor errors in judgment.

Moreover, the behavior of other motorists sharing the road also significantly influences the likelihood of car crashes. If one encounters an impaired driver on the road, the risk of an accident escalates substantially. In such instances, it is prudent to exercise caution by temporarily yielding and allowing the impaired driver to proceed.

Negligent Driving

By and large, legal claims arising from car accidents fall within the purview of negligence law. Any failure on the part of a driver to exercise the requisite level of diligence while operating a motor vehicle constitutes negligence. Should injuries or damages result from such negligence, the aggrieved party possesses the right to seek compensation for the ensuing harm.

However, establishing fault in car accidents presents a considerable challenge. Both parties involved in a traffic accident may attempt to assign blame to the other. One party might contend that the other driver carelessly violated traffic rules or initiated the collision that ultimately led to the car accident.

When determining fault or negligence, the courts consider various factors, including:

Violation of traffic signals

Failure to use signal lights when changing lanes or turning

Exceeding the posted speed limit

Reckless disregard for road safety by intentionally engaging in dangerous driving behaviors

Failure to recognize and adapt to hazardous weather conditions

Operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Reckless Driving

Reckless driving epitomizes unsafe practices that flagrantly disregard public safety and well-being, significantly heightening the likelihood of car accidents. Such behavior may encompass:

Deliberately running through a stoplight

Engaging in improper lane changes

Neglecting to signal when making turns

Engaging in irresponsible lane changes without proper consideration for nearby vehicles

Driving at excessive speeds deemed perilous given the prevailing conditions

Drunk Driving

Did you know that one person dies every 51 minutes due to drunk driving? This alarming statistic underscores the substantial risks associated with the consumption of alcoholic beverages prior to operating a vehicle. Engaging in such irresponsible and dangerous conduct not only imperils the life of the intoxicated driver but also endangers the safety of other road users who share the same thoroughfares.

By understanding these critical aspects, individuals can navigate the complexities of car accidents and related legal matters more effectively. In such trying circumstances, it is strongly advised to seek the expertise of a qualified Las Vegas personal injury attorney to ensure the protection of one’s rights and pursue rightful recourse.

Do You Work in Any of These Deadliest Jobs in America?

Are you a proud member of America’s work force? Then you’ve probably been to a couple of job safety training conferences where you learn the basic dos and don’ts. These discussions may include instructions and guidance on occupational safety hazards and the accidents and injuries that could happen.

Unfortunately there is no exact formula to completely eliminate safety hazards. If not for carelessness, negligence, or the human error element, accidents may come off as unforeseen; or if not, it may be inevitable. That’s because there are many several factors that contribute to occupational accidents and injuries.

In an article, Forbes disclosed the top 10 most dangerous jobs in America at the close of 2017 based on the data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

According to BLS, logging workers are the leading labor force in America having the highest number of fatal injuries with a rate of 135.9 fatal injuries for every 100,000 workers.

At second place are fishers and workers in the related field. The occupation’s fatal injury rate was at 86 per 100,000 workers. Ranking in third place were aircraft pilots and flight engineers, having a fatal injury rate of 55.5 per 100,000 workers.

They were closely followed by roofers or roofing professionals at a fatal injury rate of 48.6 per 100,000 workers. Closing the top 5 of America’s most dangerous occupations are refuse and recyclable material collectors at 34.1 per 100,000 workers.

Wrapping up Forbes’ report on the top 10 deadliest jobs in America, in descending order, are structural iron and steel workers, truck drivers and sales workers, agricultural professionals like farmers and ranchers, construction supervisors, and ground maintenance workers.

USA Today also released its list of the 25 most dangerous jobs in America. In addition to the above-mentioned occupations, the list revealed police and patrol officers, electrical power line installers, taxi drivers, and workers that operate industrial machinery.

Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970

The U.S. Congress, under the administration of President Richard Nixon, passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), setting the safety standards in America’s workplace.

Since the law was in effect, a significant portion of the U.S. work force have enjoyed the improvements in work safety, with such decline in workplace fatalities from 14,000 in 1970 down to about 5,000 in 2016. Today there has been a massive reduction in deaths among workers in both private and public sectors.

Admittedly there may have been a couple of fatal errors and accidents, but this has been down to a minimum since the strict safety legislation has been put into place. Majority of the remaining workplace accidents and deaths involve frequent use of heavy equipment or constant exposure to hazardous environments or potentially dangerous substances. Carelessness and disregard for workplace safety are often the reasons for these accidents and the consequential injuries or deaths.

Injuries or Deaths in a Workplace Facility

Regrettably there are occupations that are prone to accidents, resulting in serious injuries or, worse, deaths. Whether it’s a slip-up, an altercation, or simply a case of bad luck, the injured or the survivors of the deceased may be entitled to compensation benefits.

If you have lost a loved one or has been injured in a workplace facility, you may pursue legal action for damages. When you need a Las Vegas workplace accident attorney, contact Dan Lovell of Empire Law Group.

Understanding Workers’ Rights and Employers’ Responsibility for a Safe 4th of July Party at Work

American Independence Day—a day we celebrate every 4th of July—is a joyous celebration commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the sovereign nation of the United States of America.

With more than 240 years of tradition backing it, the 4th of July is one of our nation’s most cherished occasions. There’s a lot of partying, backyard barbecues and booze, and, of course, fireworks.

If, in the spirit of patriotism and love for our country, your boss decided to celebrate the 4th of July, there’s a good chance you and your coworkers will be invited to an office revelry. After all, it’s a holiday; no work and it’s party time.

Parties are a good way to connect with your officemates while celebrating an important milestone of our nation. You get to talk about other stuff outside of work with people you seldom talk to on working days. It’s a healthy social engagement, which can be good for your overall well-being.

Unfortunately not all parties are all fun and games. And the 4th of July occasion is one of them. Most people think it’s all cool at parties. But the fact is accidents can happen and people can get hurt.

There are a variety of accidents and injuries commonly seen in parties such as the 4th of July celebration. These include the following:

Slip and Fall Accidents

This can be caused when one steps on an ice cube, snow, or water pooling on the floor. Usually a spilled drink or food dropped on the floor can make the surface slippery, making it prone to accidents.

Sports Injuries

Some companies may hold sporting events or games during the 4th of July celebration. Whether it’s an indoor parlor game or a full-blown gridiron football, participants and athletes are susceptible to injuries. While these activities are fun, they are also easy ways to get injured unfortunately.

Food Poisoning

A common medical condition occurring as food poisoning can happen in an event where food is abundant. It usually happens as a result of its preparation; the principal ingredients have probably gone bad or there was just a miscalculation in the substances to create the dish.

Symptoms of food poisoning may range from nausea, indigestion, and vomiting. In severe cases, the patient may experience severe discomfort, which may require a visit to the ER.

Alcohol Intoxication

Another potential cause for serious injuries is alcohol intoxication. While booze is a common fixture in festivities, drinking too much can lead to problems. It can range to loss of coordination to falls, resulting in injuries.

Injuries at 4th of July Parties

If you suffered injuries during an office-sponsored 4th of July party, you’re probably wondering if your workers’ compensation can cover it. Can you file an action against your employer? Will this expose you to retaliation from the boss?

The good news is you may be entitled to seek workers’ compensation benefits on account of injuries sustained at an office-sponsored party.

If you believe you are entitled to claim compensation for injuries suffered during an office party, you need to file it as soon as practicable. When you need a Las Vegas workers’ compensation attorney, get in touch with Dan Lovell of Empire Law Group.

Important Things to Know Before Filing a Claim for Whiplash

Car accidents are not uncommon in Las Vegas. In fact, they happen often, which may be considered, by some standards, to be of alarming regularity. This unfortunate occurrence is usually caused by negligent or reckless behavior by some drivers.

In these car accidents, even a seemingly minor crash can leave catastrophic effects. Take the case of whiplash.

Would you believe one can suffer from whiplash even with minimal collision force? But here’s the danger. This type of injury is so serious that it has the potential of jeopardizing overall health and well-being.

Did you know whiplash is one of the most common injuries related to car accidents in the U.S.? As a result, there are a lot of people seeking a claim for compensation on account of this injury before the courts.

So what is whiplash? What are its symptoms, and how does one get it? In this article, we will understand more about the injury and its impact on overall health. We will also discuss the manner of seeking compensation for damages on account of this injury.

What Is Whiplash?

If you rode a vehicle that was bumped from the back, chances are you’ll get whiplash. This type of injury normally arises as a result of the forceful jerking of the head in a backward and forward motion due to the impact of the collision. As a result of the violent head movement, this may cause neck sprain and strain.

In addition to the injured neck muscles, whiplash may also involve ruptured ligaments, damaged discs, and fractures to the vertebrae. In severe cases, whiplash may lead to permanent nerve damage.

Did you know over 800,000 people suffer from whiplash every year in the U.S.? This figure accounts for about a third of all injury-related insurance claims.

The common symptoms of whiplash include the following:

—neck pain, stiffness, and restricted range of movement
—limited movement for the head and arms
—recurring headaches, dizziness, or fatigue
—tingling sensation in the arms and hands
—chronic pain in the shoulders, back, and arms

Not all symptoms may appear right after the car accident. There are reportedly cases where the symptoms emerge a week or two after the crash. These delayed symptoms may include the following:

—blurred vision
—memory or concentration problems
—mood disorder
—ringing of the ears
—anxiety or depression
—sleep problems

Filing Legal Action for Compensation

If you have been injured as a result of a negligent or reckless driving act of another person, you have the right to pursue a claim for compensation of damages. For purposes of filing a legal action, you will need to secure the following:

—police report, detailing the circumstances of the car accident
—medical certificate or record that documents your injuries
—other supporting documents like statements from the attending physician

You may also need to secure other records of your medical care as it relates to the following:

—emergency room and hospital admission
—doctor’s records on the symptoms and nature of the injury
—diagnostic testing
—treatment report or recommendation
—prognosis for recovery
—discharge instructions
—hospital or medical billing
—receipts on prescription and over-the-counter medications

When Is the Right Time to Hire a Personal Injury Attorney?

Did you know about 31 million people in the U.S. seek emergency medical care every year as a result of accidental injuries? The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that these bodily injuries include broken bones, muscle tears, serious cuts, and life-threatening damage to internal organs.

These personal injuries can turn one’s life around. At a moment least expected, it could happen. Whether it’s a bruise or a potentially debilitating spinal cord injury, it can disruptive to the injured’s daily routine and life.

Add to the physical pain is the mental anguish caused by the burden of significant medical and treatment costs. With the disturbance in one’s life coupled with unscheduled hospitalization and related expenses, these personal injuries can really turn one’s life upside down.

If you or a loved one has been injured on account of another person’s fault or negligence, it is highly recommended that you get in touch with a personal injury attorney.

Personal Injury Cases in Las Vegas

In Las Vegas, the most common causes of personal injuries usually involve cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Slips and falls and getting struck by a hard object are also typical reasons. Other causes include animal bites, medical malpractice instances, and use of defective products.

Did you know many of these personal injury cases are preventable? With proper observance of care, conduct, and regard for safety, these injuries won’t occur.

As a result of these injuries, the injured person will suffer disruption and costs. By these reasons, he or she is entitled to seek indemnity.

If you or a loved one have been injured under these circumstances, it pays to have legal representation to help you pursue your action for indemnity.

So when should you seek the help of a personal injury attorney?

In many cases, accident victims tend to become reluctant in seeking legal representation or help from a personal injury lawyer. Oftentimes people tend to forego seeking an attorney’s help in minor fender bender cases where there are no bodily injuries are involved. One way or another, the person who incurred damage may be able to handle the issue without too much problem.

But where serious physical injuries are involved, it is critical to get a personal injury attorney who can help make a well-informed decision about the legal issues.

Should you come across this personal injury situation, whether it’s you or a loved one who’s suffered physical injuries, the sooner you get legal representation, the better the chances of success in your lawsuit.

You need to understand that there is a certain window for you or your loved one to file an action for indemnity on account of the physical injuries suffered. Beyond that period set by law to file, you are barred from pursuing any action against the offender.

Failure to seek legal guidance after suffering a serious injury after a car accident can be very costly. It’s not that you are not familiar with your rights but how you present your case to achieve a successful outcome. Which is why you need a personal injury attorney to help you pursue your legal action.

4 Safety Tips For Your Summer Travels

Summer is here! It marks the start of the season for warm, beautiful weather. And for the kids, it’s the end of classes too. There’s plenty of time for them to go outside and play. And what better way to celebrate the wonderful climate than to travel and see what the world has to offer.

Travel presents wonderful opportunities for adults and kids to enjoy the summer break. Some take the plane to their destination. Others hop on a bus or in their cars to go on a road trip. Whichever is the preference, safety should be the paramount consideration.

Check out these 4 safety tips to keep in mind when traveling to your summer destination.

1. Travel Light.

No matter where you’re going to this year’s summer vacation, it pays to travel light. You don’t need to bring a lot of things. Just the essentials and you’re good to go. The fewer the stuff you’re bringing, the less likely you’ll attract thieves or robbers.

So start by cleaning out your wallets or purses of the unnecessary stuff. If you’re traveling abroad, bring only the essential documents and a couple of IDs. Some cash would be nice but not too much though. Remember to bring only what you need and keep your pouches light.

Also, always keep your money and essential documents close to your body. Big knapsacks and large purses that hung on the side of the body can be tempting for thieves. Bulging wallets, on the other hand, can lure robbers and pickpockets. So get a purse, wallet, or bag that’s small enough not to attract these undesirable elements but big enough to contain the essentials.

Bringing a lot of stuff can make you look like a tourist. This makes you an easy target. So try to blend in. It also helps to wear basic clothing to look like a local. Leave the expensive jewelry and other accessories at home too.

2. Safety First in the Water.

Summer is almost synonymous to water. Whether it’s a pool, lake, or beach, the warm weather season is the perfect time to take a dip. As many families tend to head to the water to cool down, take the time to assess the safety conditions of the area.

Are the waves high? Is the water deep? These are just some of the important things to consider. This is especially true if you’re bringing a little kid with you.

Another matter to take into account is the crowd. Is there a risk of losing your child among the crowd? Can you easily spot him or her?

Make sure the kids are well-supervised. It’s also a good idea to let them take swimming lessons before the planned beach, lake, or pool outing. And don’t forget to put sunscreen. Sunburn can be very painful and ruin a perfectly fun vacation.

3. Safe Travels to Your Destination and Back.

Safety should always be on your mind, especially if you’re traveling with your loved ones. This consciousness should begin even before you walk out your door. So check your car, make sure you packed the things you need, get enough sleep the night before, etc.

If you plan to do a road trip, have your vehicle checked ahead of your travel. Like they say, take care of your car and your car will take care of you.

Also plan the best route. Without a plan, you might end up lost. This can be particularly dangerous. Don’t forget to pack an emergency kit like water, food, and flashlights.

4. Maintain a Buddy System.

First of all, always keep the kids close. Urge the children to do the same. If left unsupervised, they might be vulnerable to dangers. Should they get separated from the pack, set meet-up points or safe areas beforehand as a security measure.

Vehicle Falls on Employee of Las Vegas Auto Shop

An auto shop employee died when a vehicle fell on him. The police officers responded to the scene at around 4:50 in the afternoon of the 14th of May 2018. The unfortunate event occurred at the Alex Auto Shop, which is located in Fremont St. near Mojave Road.

Lt. Grant Rogers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said they have contacted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to investigate the incident.

What Is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration?

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is an agency under the U.S. Department of Labor. It is tasked to ensure workplace safety and the health of the workers.

Under federal law, every worker is entitled to have a safe workplace. Every employer shall ensure that the workplace is free from any safety or health hazards or any element that may impair the wellbeing of the employees.

If you or your loved ones are concerned about your health and safety on the job, you may contact OSHA. You may file a confidential complaint and request for an inspection of the workplace if you believe you are exposed to an unhealthful or unsafe working environment.

The employee who filed the complaint enjoys protection from retaliation. If the employer knows of the identity of the whistleblower employee, the employer is prohibited from firing, demoting, or discriminating the latter in any capacity.

If you or your loved one has been the subject of the employer’s ire and retaliation on account of the filing of the complaint with OSHA, you may file a whistleblower complaint with OSHA within 30 days from the time of the alleged retaliation.

Know Your Rights as an Employee

All employees are entitled to a safe workplace. Federal law provides that every workplace should be free of known safety and health hazards. In addition to these rights, all employees shall also have the right to be trained in a language that they understand.

The State recognizes the higher risk of injuries when operating machinery or working with toxic chemicals. To this end, the employer shall ensure the safety of the workers operating on machines.

Safety gear shall also be provided to employees working on high-risk activities; this includes gloves, harness and lifeline, etc. Adequate protection shall also be furnished to employees who are exposed to toxic chemicals.

Concerned about Your Hazardous Working Conditions?

If you believe your working conditions are unsafe or unhealthful, you may forward your concerns with OSHA by filing an appropriate complaint. You may also request for an inspection of the workplace. These complaints and inspection requests are treated with confidentiality.

As an added recourse, you may refuse to continue to work if the unsafe and unhealthful nature of the workplace clearly presents a high risk of serious injuries or death, and this was brought to the attention of the employer.

In the event of injury or death, get medical assistance ASAP. You may also need to inform the supervisor of the fact.

Contact a Las Vegas Workplace Accident Attorney

If you or a loved one has been injured in the workplace on account of its unsafe or unhealthful nature, you may be entitled to recover damages. In the same way, heirs and other survivors of a deceased employee may claim compensation.

Get in touch with a highly experienced Las Vegas workplace accident attorney. Contact Dan Lovell of the Empire Law Group.

Hit and Run

Running away from a scene of a vehicular accident may be a means to avoid liabilities. Only if you will not be caught. Otherwise, you just caused more trouble to yourself.

But not only it is morally wrong, it is illegal too. Every person has the legal duty to help another person in distress.

For the victim, hit and run posed difficulty in seeking redress against the erring party. Hitting someone or someone else’s property is already a legal wrong. Running away from the scene to avoid the consequence adds insult to the injury. Historically, hit and run has been tagged as a menace to the administration of justice. Thereby, elevating the status of this legal wrong higher from a mere act of civil negligence.

In some states, hit and run incidents are criminalized. The act is punishable by imprisonment on top of liabilities for damages. Other states take running as an aggravating circumstance indicative of bad faith. Thereby, it justifies higher penalties and stiffer monetary indemnifications. Thus, the award would include moral and temperate damages on top of actual damages.

The Norms of Conduct in a Vehicular Accident

There are accepted norms which most states share. Primarily, parties to the accident are obligated to not abandon the other party in an accident. Furthermore, they are also obligated to help a party who needs immediate medical attention. This is the foremost of all principles. Other norms are as follows:

As soon as practicable, stop your vehicle and do not move anything.
Contact traffic authorities to document the scene of the vehicular accident.
Whenever practicable, speak with other party and exchange contact and insurance information.
Whenever practicable, also have personal documentation of the accident. Take pictures and know the names and contact details of the people around who may have witnessed the crash.

Collision of Unattended Vehicle or Things.

There are scenarios when someone hits an unattended vehicle or thing. When waiting for the owner to return is not practicable, the erring party may leave; provided, however, that he takes note of the identity of the damaged property. He should also leave a note containing his contact details. But that is only the bare minimum. This is mostly applicable if the accident only results in minor damage to property. Otherwise, it is best if he reports the incident to the authorities and has the accident documented before he leaves the scene.

Instances When Running is Permitted

Safety to one’s life is the paramount consideration in almost all circumstances. This is a basic principle. This includes being involved in a vehicular accident. Whenever there is a likely threat to one’s life, he may run from it. In such situation, one is permitted to run from the scene of a vehicular accident.

Parties involved in a vehicular accident are obligated to report the incident to the authorities. The reason is not only legal but also practical. One may use the report to process insurance claim, even if there is no case filed in court. The report will form part of road accident and safety statistics. These statistics may be used as bases for safety innovations. Moreover, it is best to speak with an attorney following or immediately after a vehicular accident. Your attorney will help defend your interest and mitigate exposure to liabilities arising from the accident.

Las Vegas Wrongful Death Attorney

When someone dies, the most unfortunate thing isn’t just limited to the death. Sometimes the living has to carry the burden of the loss of a loved one. And that’s what’s regrettable. But what’s even worse is when it’s a wrongful death.

Wrongful death brings a whole lot of distress and pain. On top of the fact of death, the loss of a loved one may mean lost support and companionship. There may also be huge amounts in unpaid medical bills and funeral costs.

But you don’t have to face this battle and suffering alone. With the help of a Las Vegas wrongful death attorney, you can reduce the anxiety and worries that resulted from the loss of a loved one.

Causes of Wrongful Death

There are wide spectrum of causes that lead to wrongful death. Among them are motor vehicle accidents. In Las Vegas, this is not uncommon. As a city with a lively nightlife, intoxicated drivers may frequent the roadways.

Big rigs and trailer trucks also frequent the State of Nevada. And it’s not uncommon to have truck drivers who may be overworked, sleep deprived, or otherwise fatigued. These factors tend to diminish their ability to operate their huge machine safely on the road. Reckless behavior from other people who we share the road with also increase the mortality risk associated with driving.

Medical malpractice is an unacceptable cause of wrongful death. We rely on doctors to make us feel better. Yet by their fault or negligence, should they cause harm or death, these doctors should be held liable.

Using a defective product may also lead to wrongful death. This is particularly common in treatment devices or medications, which are supposedly designed to help patients get better. For patients that got injured or died as a result of the defective product, the company that designed it may be held liable. Liability also attaches to persons or companies that manufactured, distributed, or sold the said product.

Lastly, workplace accidents aren’t foreign in this day and age. People get injured while performing their tasks. This is especially true in fields like construction or those involving heavy machinery or sharp tools. In these instances, the employer may be held liable if he/she failed to install measures that ensure a safe work environment.

Getting in Touch with a Las Vegas Wrongful Death Attorney

Losing someone you love is stressful enough already. Death carries much pain. But for a loved one to die under wrongful death circumstances can be distressing even more. In addition to the pain of loss, financial strain and other economic disadvantages may come into play.

Wrongful death is wrong. If you have lost a loved one under wrongful death circumstances, you have the right to institute a legal action to obtain compensation for damages. For this purpose, it is highly recommended that you speak with a Las Vegas wrongful death attorney.

Las Vegas Slip and Fall Attorney

Have you or your loved ones suffered serious injury as a result of slipping or falling? If this is due to the failure of property owners to maintain safe premises, you may be entitled to seek compensation for damages. For this purpose, contact a Las Vegas slip and fall attorney.

Under the laws in the State of Nevada, property owners such as landlords, business owners, and even homeowners need to exercise due diligence in making sure that their property is up-to-date with safety regulations. Part of the safety regulations require property owners to conduct routine safety checks, standard maintenance, and timely necessary repairs to ensure the safety of those who enter the premises. Failure to meet these safety requirements may lead to accidents, which may cause serious physical injuries.

However, many people still suffer injuries due to these property owners’ omission to maintain safe and orderly premises. It is very unfortunate that many of these injuries are painful and costly; some may be debilitating, resulting in missed work, paralysis, or death.

One of the common causes of these injuries are slip and fall accidents. Slipping, by its common usage, means losing one’s balance due to skidding on the floor’s surface or losing one’s footing. On the other hand, falling means tripping and falling over.

For normal, healthy-bodied individuals, slip and fall accidents may result in a couple of bruises. Probably a strain or sprain too. It can also cause serious injuries like broken bones for the kids. But for the elderly, this can be fatal. Did you know falls are among the leading factors that contribute to a high mortality risk among the elderly?
Common Physical Injuries Resulting from Slip and Fall Accidents

Did you know thousands of people suffer from injuries due to slip and fall accidents? The usual physical injuries resulting from these unfortunate occurrences may include serious fractures. These injuries usually occur on the hands, shoulder, elbows, and knees; these limbs are usually used by the injured victim to break the fall. This results when the joints lock up as a result of the force or impact of the fall.

Head injuries and contusions may also follow. This may happen when the injured victim fails to absorb the blow of the fall with his/her limbs while breaking the fall with the head. This may also result when the bounces off the floor’s surface after the body hits the floor.

In the State of Nevada, property owners need to maintain a safe and risk-free environment in their residential, commercial, or industrial premises. To ensure the safety of the property, timely repairs need to be done. When repairs have yet to be made, owners need to post warning signs or otherwise block the areas where slip and fall accidents are highly likely.

Should the property owner fail to do this, he or she may be held liable for any injury, damage, or death resulting to those who set foot in their premises. For this reason, the injured or aggrieved parties may obtain compensation for damages.
